Canadian Investing Platform Wealthsimple Secures Up to CA$425 Million Equity Round at CA$13.8 Billion Valuation

Canadian investing and financial technology platform Wealthsimple has agreed to an equity round of up to CA$425 million, which translates to approximately US$302 million, valuing the post-money company at CA$13.8 billion, or roughly US$9.8 billion.

The significant funding round is being led by GIC, a prominent global investment firm that previously co-led Wealthsimple’s substantial CA$750 million raise at a CA$10 billion valuation in October 2025. Since that capital injection, the fintech firm reported that its core investing business has maintained a remarkably strong growth trajectory. At the same time, its newer product lines—including chequing, spending, and various business-focused financial offerings—have experienced robust consumer and commercial adoption across the Canadian market.

The newly agreed deal is structured to include a CA$300 million primary offering alongside a secondary offering of up to CA$125 million. Through the secondary offering component, Wealthsimple’s employees will have the opportunity to share directly in the financial value that they have collectively helped to create over years of expansion and product development. Meanwhile, a strong lineup of existing investors is participating in the round, featuring the Power Corporation of Canada, IGM Financial, ICONIQ, CPP Investments, and Inovia.

Wealthsimple has indicated that it will put the newly acquired capital to work by expanding its broad suite of products and continuing to invest deeply in its underlying technology infrastructure.

Michael Katchen, the chief executive officer and co-founder of Wealthsimple, spoke about the significance of the fresh capital injection and the ongoing backing from key financial partners. "This raise reflects the deep conviction our partners have in Wealthsimple’s mission and in our role as the company defining the future of financial services in Canada," Katchen said.

Echoing this sentiment, Vinay Yarlagadda, Managing Director of the Technology Investment Group at GIC, emphasized the strategic alignment between the lead investor and the growing fintech platform. "We are excited to lead this financing and support the company as it helps more Canadians build a stronger financial future," Yarlagadda noted.

The sheer scale of Wealthsimple’s operations has evolved dramatically over recent years and months. As of September 30, 2026, the firm reported holding CA$169.2 billion in assets under administration, marking a massive leap upward from the CA$100 billion recorded at the time of its previous funding raise. Today, the platform serves more than four million individual Canadians and over 30,000 businesses.

The diversification of Wealthsimple’s business model has also reached notable milestones. During the second quarter of 2026, new chequing account openings officially outpaced new traditional investment account openings for the first time in the company’s history, signaling a broader shift in how everyday consumers interact with the platform for their daily banking and liquidity needs.

Over the past year alone, the firm has rolled out more than 50 distinct products and features, including commission-free options trading and futures trading capabilities, catering to both retail traders and more active market participants. The company is expected to continue this rapid pace of innovation, with plans to announce a new slate of upcoming product releases at its fourth annual Wealthsimple Presents event scheduled for November 5.
