Mintive Secures $7M Seed Round to Tackle the Complex World of Enterprise AI Agent Management

As businesses race to integrate autonomous artificial intelligence into their daily workflows, a new class of infrastructure startup is emerging to help IT departments keep the chaos under control. The latest player to enter this crowded arena is Mintive, an early-stage agent-management platform that is quickly turning heads thanks to the heavyweight credentials of its founders and an impressive roster of high-profile backers.

Mintive announced that it has raised a total of $11 million to date, punctuated by a newly revealed $7 million seed round led by Cowboy Ventures. The funding event also drew participation from prominent institutional investors such as Coatue, Operator Collective, and Hustle Fund. Beyond traditional venture capital firms, the startup has attracted a notable cohort of angel investors, including Okta co-founder Frederic Kerrest, Discovery Loop co-founder and former Google Chief Scientist Jeff Dean, and OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy, among others.

The company is the brainchild of Jiquan Ngiam and Vijay Vasudevan, two veterans of the tech industry with deep roots in foundational artificial intelligence research and development. Ngiam, who serves as Mintive’s CEO, was the founding engineer at Coursera—hired as employee number one by Andrew Ng—and later spent time working on neural networks at Google Brain. Vasudevan, the company’s CTO, is widely recognized in the tech community as one of the original co-creators of TensorFlow during his tenure at Google Brain, helping build the pioneering AI training platform that predated PyTorch.

Mintive enters the market at a time when enterprises are increasingly struggling to govern, provision, and secure identity management for a proliferating number of enterprise AI agents. The startup’s platform offers a comprehensive suite of tools designed to tame this digital workforce. Its architecture includes a Model Context Protocol (MCP) gateway, which allows IT and security professionals to tightly authorize precisely which cloud services enterprise agents may access and what specific actions they are permitted to perform on them.

Additionally, Mintive provides a Large Language Model (LLM) gateway capable of routing requests to different underlying models while capping operational costs. The platform also handles agent identities and authorizations—permissions that often differ significantly from the human employees the agents are designed to serve—and features an overarching agent monitor that tracks all deployed agents across an entire organization. Furthermore, the system enables enterprises to create and manage agents that can proactively execute long-running, complex tasks in the background.

Despite the robust feature set, Mintive is wading into an extraordinarily crowded field. Agent management and governance systems are already being offered by industry heavyweights such as Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic. At the same time, the market is flooded with point products from a diverse array of companies, ranging from LangChain and New Relic to Rippling. The startup ecosystem is similarly saturated, with more than forty companies focusing on agent identity within Y Combinator’s portfolio alone.

So how does a young startup carve out a defensible niche against such formidable competition? According to Ngiam, the secret sauce lies in user experience, born from the founders’ extensive history in building enterprise AI systems. While many infrastructure tools require deep technical overhead, Mintive has designed its platform to be remarkably straightforward, promising that setup can be completed with just a few clicks.

Ngiam noted that new customers are often surprised by how quickly the platform can be deployed in production environments. He explained that the team thoroughly analyzed every friction point related to access control and permissioning layers to abstract away unnecessary complexities. Users do not have to worry about configuring intricate sandboxes, managing testing harnesses, or manually handling memory persistence, because the Mintive platform manages those elements behind the scenes.

That frictionless pitch has already resonated with a growing base of enterprise users. Since launching its product in February, Mintive has quietly onboarded more than 50 enterprise customers. The current roster includes notable names such as Ro, Modern Treasury, the University of Michigan, Coursera, Apax, and Stability AI.

For Cowboy Ventures managing partner Aileen Lee, it was the founders’ deep industry experience and pragmatic approach that ultimately sealed the investment. Lee emphasized that while artificial intelligence is unlocking incredible capabilities for modern enterprises, the market desperately needs robust infrastructure layers that can deliver proper governance, visibility, and control over autonomous systems.

Lee also expressed deep respect for Ngiam’s disciplined financial strategy, noting that keeping total fundraising to $11 million stands in stark contrast to the massive capital injections currently sweeping the broader artificial intelligence sector. While many agentic-building startups are raising astronomical sums at multi-billion-dollar unicorn valuations—such as Prime Intellect, which recently secured a $130 million Series A at a $1 billion valuation—Mintive has chosen a more measured path.

Lee described Ngiam as a mature leader who avoided chasing vanity rounds, pointing out that many early-stage companies are inadvertently setting themselves up for failure by prioritizing massive round sizes over capital efficiency and genuine business milestones. In an era defined by unprecedented fundraising figures, Lee praised the startup for building its business deliberately and steadily, likening the process to laying bricks one by one the old-fashioned way.
