Elon Musk said sorry on Wednesday for mean things he wrote about President Donald Trump on social media last week.
“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on his website X (formerly Twitter).
This apology came after Trump said their friendship was over. Trump told reporters: “Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.”
What Started the Fight
The fight began over Trump’s new tax bill. Musk called Trump’s spending plan a “disgusting abomination” on social media.
Two weeks ago, Musk quit his job as Trump’s top advisor at the White House. On June 5, Musk claimed that Trump’s name appears in secret government papers about Jeffrey Epstein, a man who went to jail for bad crimes.
The Big Argument
Last week, Trump and Musk started insulting each other online. Trump said he was “very disappointed” with Musk and threatened to cancel his government contracts with SpaceX.
Musk then made things worse by saying Trump would have lost the election without his help. Musk gave almost $300 million to help Trump win.
“Without me, Trump would have lost the election. Such ingratitude,” Musk wrote on X.
Why This Matters
Trump’s tax bill is very important for his presidency. It wants to keep tax cuts from when he was president before. This bill could decide if Republicans do well in the 2026 elections.
The fight between these two powerful men shows how politics can break up even close friendships.
