US stock markets will remain closed on Monday, May 26, to honor Memorial Day. Both the Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange will shut down for the day and reopen Tuesday, May 27, for normal trading.
The bond market will also have limited hours, closing early at 2 PM Eastern Time on Friday, May 23, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association.
Memorial Day is America’s most important day to remember and honor military service members who died while serving their country. The US Department of Veterans Affairs describes it as the nation’s main annual day of mourning for fallen soldiers.
After Memorial Day, Wall Street will operate normally until mid-June. The next planned market closure is Thursday, June 19, when markets will close for Juneteenth, the federal holiday celebrating the end of slavery in America.
